Aims of project
- To enable non English speakers to access appropriate services
- To improve the ability of local organisations to deliver services appropriate to the migrant population groups
- To improve the relationship between local residents and migrant workers
- To gain an increased knowledge of the lifestyles of the migrant population, and changes in their demography.
- To gather information about uptake of English language courses.
- To identify where future changes in provision of services may be needed.
Aims of the project evaluation
- To assist the Project board
- determine to what degree the Expanding Communities project achieved its aims
- make recommendations for the future of the project
- make recommendations to enable local organisations to better meet the needs of the migrant population.
- Influence longer term policies to address the issues identified.
By the end of the project and its evaluation (Outcomes)
- Services accessed by migrant populations will have been identified.
- Issues faced by the migrant population in accessing these services will have been identified.
- Non English speaking members of the community will be able to access local services appropriately.
- The issues faced by the organisations when contacted by a non English speaker will have been identified
- Local organisations will be able to deliver services in a way that meets the needs of migrant workers.
- Long term residents of Arun and Chichester Districts will recognise the value to the community of migrant workers.
- Local data on the changing profile of the migrant population will be available.
- Recommendations for the future will have been made.
Method of data collection
- Demographic information gathered by community workers on initial contact with client
- Information recorded by community workers in case notes about reason for contact, action taken and result of action
- Referral forms received by community workers from organisations
- Satisfaction questionnaire distributed to users of the project: (a) Members of the community (b) Organisations
- Reflections of the community workers and the team leader
- Awareness of project via questioning local residents
